Do you use Facebook? Of course, you do. Do you have a Facebook business page? Who knows! If you do, great! If you don’t, you want to get one. You do need a personal page to run a Facebook business page.
After you get a business page, you must get it verified by Facebook. This involves several steps. One of the first steps is to have a public phone number. You also have to supply them with a recent phone bill or utility bill with your business name on it.
The next thing that you must do is get at least 25 likes to your page before your site gets an actual Facebook tag. In other words, if you are verified, you’ll have an actual page name. Here’s for one of my schools: https://www.facebook.com/KungFuWexford
If you do not have a verified page, it will look like this: https://www.facebook.com/YOURBUSINESSNAME-324459914869/?fb_dtsg_ag=Adye-Ka-_tExSNiMtQgGiBu6zB3xKN6WRDMxK_4TZj2dSg%3AAdwUxNhJHheOms9Bvz1UpJhL2mi1iwr7nyAjXHpLPc_X9A
Or this: https://www.facebook.com/MY-BUSINESS-NAME-324459914869/ which means that you do not have a username that people can use in Facebook. In other words, @KungFuWexford. People can easily use that to go to your page on Facebook. This is great for getting new members and new prospects to go to your page.
As you can see, the previous link is clear and looks authentic. Double-check your Facebook page to make sure you’re verified. Here are some reasons why.
- Higher ranks in search results to attract more visitors – Your page should appear on top when people start typing names related to your business.
- Visitors know your Page is authentic – Of course, having a verified page means there’s an official representative behind the page.
- Exclusive early access to new features – Facebook keeps rolling out several new features and thus getting your Facebook page verified means you might be lucky to get early access to several of those new features.
Facebook mainly aims to help its users reach the right and authentic local businesses with verified badges or usernames.
The next item is to set up a credit card on Facebook. Why? Because the purpose of having a Facebook Business page is to drive traffic to your website. It is not to boast about your style, how you’re the greatest teacher, etc. I’ll talk more about what to post later. You will need a credit card to boost posts and to do the online ads. You can set a monthly limit, so you do not overspend.
The next item on your agenda is placing a button at the top of the page, so when people need more information, it takes them to a page on your website. After that, set up a profile. That should be more than just your address. You can write a small synopsis about your school and tell them exactly what you do, your history, how long you’ve been in business, etc.
Next start to get your students to go to your Facebook page to give you your 5-star reviews. That goes a long way into having people trust and believe you. Then set up a services page. That is where you tell people what you have to offer. For example, Kung Fu (what it provides), Tai Chi (what it offers), and whatever else you teach. The service page is important because Facebook has recently split businesses into two different categories: Business for Products and Business for Services. Martial arts fall into the latter.
